About AP Courses

Are you ready for a unique learning experience that will help you succeed in college? Each year, students around the world who want to learn and achieve at the highest level become AP students. Through AP's college-level courses and exams, you can earn college credit and advanced placement, stand out in the admissions process, and learn from some of the most skilled, dedicated, and inspiring teachers in the world.

Administering AP Exams

AP Exams are rigorous, multiple-component tests in 37 subjects that are administered at high schools each May. High school students can earn college credit, placement, or both for qualifying AP Exam grades. Each AP Exam has a corresponding AP course and provides a standardized measure of what students have learned in the AP classroom.
In May 2008, more than 1.6 million high school students at over 17,000 schools worldwide took AP Exams. The majority of U.S. high schools currently participate in the AP Program, and more than 90 percent of four-year U.S. colleges and universities grant credit or placement for qualifying AP Exam grades.
For each curious and motivated student in your school, there's bound to be an AP course that matches their unique interests. AP offers 37 courses in 22 subject areas, including art, computer science, world languages, government and politics, and more. Participating in the AP Program

While there is no fee for participating in AP, there are several steps that a school needs to take before offering AP Exams, including obtaining a College Board school code and completing the AP Participation Form. Please note:
Schools may assemble students earlier than these exam start times to complete identifying information on answer sheets. Your AP Coordinator is responsible for letting you know exactly when and where to report for your exams.
Schools in Alaska must begin the morning exam administration between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. local time and the afternoon exam administration between 11 a.m. and 12 noon local time. The AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism Exam must begin between 1 and 2 p.m. in Alaska.
If you wish to take exams that are scheduled for the same time slot, ask your Coordinator for information about taking one of the exams during the late-testing period. You may not take both Calculus AB and Calculus BC in one year.
* If you plan to take exams scheduled for May 5 and your school will be closed due to Cinco de Mayo, ask your Coordinator for information about taking those exams during the late-testing period.

Early testing or testing at times other than those published by the College Board are not permitted under any circumstances.
